- in Home Improvement

Flies are something that a lot of us know about, but we try not to think about them too much because that information could be quite scary. That being said, we should know some of these scary facts about flies – here are just a few of the many things that you should know about these creepy little things.

  1. We all know that flies are dirty, but do you realize how dirty that they really are? They can carry over 2 million different bacteria on their bodies at any point in time. That means that they are carrying around all sorts of diseases and other things that would just be better off if they didn’t exist – and why we need to be careful when it comes to having them around.
  2. Do you know why flies enjoy going after sugary foods so much? It’s because their tongues are incredibly sensitive to sugar – in fact, estimates say that it’s millions of times more sensitive to what you and I have in terms of sensitivity to those same things.
  3. One of the biggest issues that we have when it comes to swatting flies is the fact that it’s really difficult for us to get past those compound eyes. Since they have tiny little sensors and such all over them, they actually have the ability to see dozens of ways at once. So even if you have quick reflexes, you still will have a difficult time actually nabbing that fly that you have been trying to get out of your home for awhile.
  4. Have you ever heard that flies can carry around manure on their legs? It’s actually true, and it usually sticks there for a long while. That being said, that means that they are going to be depositing it on absolutely everything that they land on – including any of the food that is in your home that they’re going to be trying to get a taste of. Even more of a good reason that you should be thinking about getting them out of your home or office.
  5. Did you know that the best place for flies to reproduce is in manure? Manure piles are a great place for flies to have their babies. While they prefer horse and cow manure, they can reproduce pretty much anywhere. Which is why the issue that we talked about in the previous fact is that much more of an issue – they come out of their breeding area and they’ve got manure already on them. Yuck.
